As you know I've been out of town for the past week and some interesting stuff has occurred while I was gone. If you head on over to scariestthingieversaw.com and move the terminal window out of the way you will see a box that asks you if you want to print a document. Now this in itself isn't news since we discovered this dialog box way back at the beginning, but what is new is the information that is now printing along side the familiar text that we had before. This time we find a picture on the printout, which by this point has been dissected a million times over in hopes of finding a new clue. Now I'm not sure what to make of some of the things the people over at unfiction have found, but I'll relay them anyways.

First of all (and this one is pretty obvious) the projection we are seeing is a shot pulled straight from the trailer. We see the "ver" from "scariest thing i ever saw" which was hidden at the end of the trailer. The left side of the picture appears to be some sort of reflection of a box with a hat, complete with monkey pin, on it, a lamp and a pair of scissors. Basically it's a box of old junk that someone appears to be selling. If you reverse the left side of the image (since it's a reflection) you will see that the yellow post it note has the worlds "SOLD" on it, which would indicate that this person is selling off old belongings. The box has a zip code written on it which appears to be 25801 (the first time I looked at it I saw 23801) but the "25801" that everyone seems to be focusing on is a zip code in West Virginia.

Due to the fact that someone appears to be selling off old stuff in the image (or just stuff, depending on when the picture was "actually taken") that lead some people to check the West Virginia area of craiglist for anything out of the ordinary, and they may have found some stuff.

As well as the pillbox hat "Repost":

http://swv.craigslist.org/clo/1797822088.html

The above were all found by users on unfiction and seem to be an estate sale of someone named Josh trying to sell off some of his recently deceased mother. By apparently stitching together pieces of a phone number hidden within each image attached to the craigslist ads they were able to come up with the phone number 1-800-708-2151, which is the hotline for the memorial service of Evelyn Minker who has a son named Josh, which is the person selling the items on craigslist, and one of those items happens to be the same hat we see in the "scariest thing" print out image. And then a little more digging around Josh Minker lead them to a site called "Hook, Line and Minker" which they believe to be connected to this all, but in what way they're not sure.

So I think that's all that was discovered while I was away. I'm still a little skeptical on the connection between the new image on scariest thing and the craigslist ads, but the more I look at it and the more I read, the more I feel like there's a good chance that they are indeed all connected. So again I apologize for the delay in getting this information up as I was out of town touring the baseball stadiums of California for a week, but I do know that I don't have any upcoming vacations planned so I'll be around the next time something big drops. Thanks again for sticking around.

Also, I'll save copies of the craigslist ads in case they go down, but for now the links above all still work.

    Well, regardless of its orientation, the amount of the crescent is farily correct to the amount on the rocket poppeteers site. The only other posiblity is another clue at some point during the previews of Inception, which releases on the 16th as well. Still, something will hapeen on that day, hell maybe we will get lucky and get both :D

    I have a theory, and i could be wrong. it’s for the new site “hooklineandminker” and has to do with the photo slider on the home page. After reading each description of the fish i started realizing that each one has a distinctive atribute that makes it unique. here’s a list of the atributes.
    -scarce food…venture out of water in search of prey
    -every spine is venomous
    -lighted fin acts as “fishing rod” to lure prey
    -largest teeth in proportion to its body
    -walk along ocean floor
    -use mimery and camouflage to hide from predators or look like a potential meal for their prey
    -distinctive “foghorn” sound
    -sharp fangs and large mouths
    -sharp teeth and speed can sometimes cut prey in half
    -largest fresh water fish
    -mistaken for sea monster
    -like a campire but with a lot more teeth
    -very painful, powerful sting
    -rows of crushing teeth in back, throat…scattered with serrated teeth
    -body equipt with venom glands…most deadly fish venom
    -the most dangerous species in coral reef Eco-system, if it does not kill you, you will have bad case of nausea and vomiting
    -see through head and tunnel vision
    it may be a description of the “creature” or nothing at all. if anyone has anything to add to this, please do.

    im not trying to disprove wut u said but that was posted a while back. Some one suggested that the fish on Josh’s website share attribute wit the creature from the film.
    @ Everyone else:
    My real question is how does it help us. There is still other commands that we cant use on http://www.scarriestthingieversaw.com. The rocket popeteer site has not yeilded any real results and the audio file that can be downloaded has no bearing on where we should look…While http://www.hooklineandminker.com may be IG, we still havent come up with a definite clue from the site. sorry to say i think we have hit a wall. we havent had any true progress in almost a month. i dont know how long these things take to develope but i want to see it thru to the end. I just think sumone needs to throw us a bone. I have myself tried to hunt down every lead i come across. I have checked out the golden ratio bit, the hook line and minker site. the hotel site in west virginia. i have tried all the commads with every file type on scarriest thing i ever saw.com followed up on the 7550 intel legend spot from the anonymous guy that posted it…. the fact that nothing trully solid has com up has brought me to 2 conclusions. either no one has come up with the appropriate responce to this game or we’re stuck. oh yea or we the path we need to proceed is not open yet…..what do u guys think?

  5. I’ve suggested this on another site, but I’ll weig in here.

    Consider this as a theory:

    Josh’s mom:

    1. dies and in going through her possessions comes across
    A. a previously unopened box containing (?) addressed to his mother,
    or
    B. a box addressed and sent to his mother (for whatever reason) and
    was kept for storage of items that perhaps had meant something to
    her in the past, but had fell out of style, or items she was saving for
    posterity, or for other family members, etc.

    2. is near death, and she tells him that there is something in the
    attic/basement/? in a box addressed to her/her husband/? that she
    wants him to look into after she dies. She’s very cryptic about it, but
    does give details about some old super8 film that Josh’s
    now-deceased twin sister/brother had taken with some neighbor kids
    where they used to live/currently live back in late 70s—early
    80s. “Just watch the film and you’ll see that there were adults in part
    of the footage who may still be alive today and be able to answer your
    questions.”

    After the death of Josh’s mom, he unloads the box of its items, watches the film, and sorts through items he decides to sell, and lists them on craigslist.

    Gets a bite on the hat, places a “SOLD” post-it note on the aforementioned box (with some of the packing material from the prior contents showing up in the STIES photo as partially in and out of the box), and prepares to use the scissors setting on top of the sheet of white paper (with help of the tape dispenser close by) to write the name and address of the prospective buyer on the sheet of paper, cut it to size, and tape it over the old address on the box and ship it.

    He contacts the ATS web site and asks, “Hey – new to this site. Does anyone know the best way to authenticate something? Like old papers, photos, footage, etc? Are there experts for conspiracy related verifications? Would appreciate the help!”

    Josh then learns his prospective buyer’s check bounced, or the buyer contacts Josh, bailing on the deal.

    He then reposts the hat, along with other items back on craigslist.

    Josh hears from someone who can “authenticate… footage.” They correspond, and this “mystery” person is satisfied that Josh might actually have the STIES footage, but wants to make sure, so he/she asks Josh to take a photograph of one of the frames in the leader of the film showing the letters that had been written on it. (It would stand to reason that the mystery person may have photographed parts of the leader, or he may have a copy of the STIES film himself.) In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if all parties to what had happened (re: the STIES film) had been in possession of a copy of the film.

    There is a calendar on the HLM site for spotting rare fish and it gives times for each day. The 16th is 4:44 am – 5:15 am and 5:21 pm – 5:51 pm.

  7. Cocotones says:

    I don’t think there’s going to be anything found for a while, I mean come on, thhe film hasn’t even begun shooting yet. So, then we’ll have to wait untiul something shows up!

    @Xeno Lambrose

    could it be that the mystery person is “part” of the Area 51 or something mystery and he’s disguised as a normal person that needs to destroy the footage and get rid of it because he and the group were the only ones who caught the creature and the government is keeping it a SECRET?

  8. Cocotones, you said:
    “could it be that the mystery person is “part” of the Area 51 or something mystery and he’s disguised as a normal person that needs to destroy the footage and get rid of it because he and the group were the only ones who caught the creature and the government is keeping it a SECRET?”

    Certainly, in fact every good story has a protagonist, and an antagonist.

    If Josh is the “good guy,” who’s the bad guy/gal?

    If “good guys/gals” were privy to seeing something they classified as STIES, perhaps that footage contains elements of “It’s” confrontation with agents of the gov’t.

    You would have to assume that Josh isn’t with the gov’t by his post on ATS. That post could have presumbably led to contact by someone who could “authenticate” by virtue of having been part of what Josh sees on the film, good guy/gal, or gov’t agents.

    From a story perspective, the NSA, CIA, Majestic, etc. would be monitoring very closely activity on web sites regarding the “incident” in 1979 or later, and would prsumbably be very eager to lay hands on any existing evidence of such an encounter.

    That brings up a point I’ve considered, and I haven’t followed this site’s comments as closely as another, but try this on for size:

    The trailer for Super 8 shows what occurred in 1979, but suppose what was actually caught on super 8 film happened after, perhaps much later, what we see depicted in the trailer.

    Suppose the “It” burst out of its containment carrier and went undiscovered for some indeterminate amount of time before being captured on the super 8 footage.

    We don’t know where/when “It” originally came from or how, where/when it was captured, how long it was kept at Area 51, and what necessitated “its” having to be transfered to Wright-Pat.

    There are no railroad lines in/out of Area 51, so it had to have been transfered to the nearest rail line (presumbably in Vegas) either by semi, or by military transport (possibly to Nellis AFB).

    Why not fly it the entire distance from Area 51 to Wright-Pat? Much quicker, less attention, and if a critical failure occured while in flight (i.e. “It” broke out of its restraints) an accompanying fighter could wait till crew and pilots ejected/bailed out to safety before launching a sidewinder at it, destroying (hopefully) “It.”

    As it is, someone, for whatever reason, drives down the rails, colliding with the train, and derailing it. (Buddy of mine was an engineer for Southern Pacific, and over the course of 20+ years smashed into cars/trucks that were on the rails a handful of occasions, and NEVER sustained a derailment from an encounter with train vs. vehicle–but that was reality, not a movie.)

    If someone had attempted to fly a cessna into a transport plane carrying sensitive cargo, a fighter, as part of the flight detail, could have easily dealt with such with no harm to the transport and its cargo.

    So, just a lot of unanswered questions right now for me. It will be interesting to see in the movie what justification (if any) they will give to the questions raised.

    I really hope that the story depicted in the movie will be logical, reasonable, and well thought out. From what I’ve seen of J.J. and Spielberg’s flicks they usually are, for the most part.

  9. Cocotones says:

    @Xeno Lambrose
    Dude, it’s just a theory…

  10. Xeno Lambrose says:

    @Cocotones

    “but try this on for size.”

    Or Dude, were you referring to your theory, which I rather understood, but thanks for reminding me.

  11. J.J Abrams says:

    Yeah, to my theory. I was just saying that my theory was just a theory, don’t take it seriously or stuff like that.

    ~~~ NEW UPDATE!!!!!!!! ~~~
    October 20th
    By Josh | Published: October 20, 2010
    Gotta hurry – lunch hour. OK, some of you have rightfully been on me about my August post. I’m a little embarrassed about it, it’s slightly out-of-character for me. But glad to know no one is judging, right? Well, what can I say, it happens. Especially when you think you may be at the start of something great. At least, here’s hoping I’m not the only one that feels that way!
    Anyway, onto some sad news. One of my favorites, my Red Oscar fish, Nelson, passed away. For any newbies reading this, I’m sure I sound crazy for being upset about this. But trust me when I say these are smart fish, you can develop a real relationship with these guys and after 11 years – well, I imagine it’s not far off from what it feels like to lose a dog.
    So, under the heading of LIFE IS SHORT, I have decided to buy the new aquarium. Will try to post pictures when it arrives. This will really step up my private collection and I am very excited. You have to get what you need to be happy when you can, right?
    And for those of you who wont relent about the Bobbit Worm in with my fish Photo Slider: I don’t know why posting the pic the has gotten so many snide comments, but I think it’s cool – so, there you go.
