If the name Neville Page sounds familiar to you that's because he was the man behind the design of the Cloverfield creature as well as the designer on Piranha 3-D, Avatar, Star Trek and Tron: Legacy (among others I'm sure). It looks as if he'll be designing the creature in Super 8. Wired recently sat down with him to discuss all things design, so what are you waiting for, give the video a watch.
I finally got around to updating the backend software to the latest version and I noticed that it included some cool features so I wanted to be sure to let you guys know. Actually it's really only one cool feature and that's nested comments. So what this means is that you can reply to someone's comment and it will actually indent your comment a little bit making it much easier to follow who's replying to who. I think this is going to make discussion in the comments a lot easier to follow so I hope you guys take advantage. I currently have it setup to only go 5 levels deep which I think will be plenty, plus it'll start smashing the comments if I go much further than that. So to use this feature you will now see a "Reply" link at the end of every single comment, if you click that link (instead of just scrolling to the bottom and using the quick reply box) your reply will appear directly under that persons comment, that you wish to reply to.
Also, with the update I know I'm not going to be able to catch every little bug that may have been caused, so if you notice something not working right please let me know so I can fix it. Thanks guys, hopefully we'll get some more movie news soon!
It looks like Abrams and company are taking the same route that they did with Cloverfield and filming under different names to throw people off, but of course that isn't going to stop us from figuring it out. It appears as though filming will start in September in Weirton, West Virginia. It also appears that the casting call that was sent out before that was thought to be Super 8, in fact is. Some of the people that live in Weirton have received letters from the production company stating that a movie called "Darlings" will begin filming on the main street of the town and last 2 to 3 months and the plot revolves around a 14 year old boy and is set in a steel town in 1979.
But that's not all, according to WOWK there is another Paramount production shooting under the title "Wickham" about a group of teenagers who spend a summer together and their struggles with growing older. The press release indicates that the movie is PG-13 and will be filming in Weirton, West Virginia in September, which obviously leads to speculation about this also being another fake title for the Super 8 filming. And according to Comingsoon.net, Athena Wickman is the name of a long standing creative executive over at Bad Robot, JJ Abrams production company.
And lastly there appears to have been an extras casting call placed in the local Weirton news paper looking for middle/high school kids, police, soldier, EMT and townspeople. This casting call, which was placed under the name Wickham, notes that the movie revolves around a train crash that brings a town together. So with all this information that has been gathered it would be a pretty good assumption that Super 8 will be filming in Weirton, West Virginia next month. So if you live in that area and can get a few spy pics, send em over.
Thanks to Stacey and Robert for tipping me off to this info.
When the site "launched" last week it only allowed us to sign up or verify who we were, but now the site has fully launched, kind of. There are still place holders for each of the sections, so not a whole lot going on, but you can still play around with the site a bit. I've only had a few minutes to click around with it but here's what we have.
You can press all sorts of buttons on the console and make weird noises, not sure if the buttons actually do anything outside of make sounds, but I'm sure you guys will exhaust all possibilities.
If you press blast off, the ship takes off and we see a space landscape with Captain "Coop" Cooper floating around and this now gives us access to the following locations on the site:
- The Rocket Poppeteers Legacy
- Uncharted Territory
- Poppeteers Pride
- Coop's Amazing Adventures
- Space Station: Freezer
- Astronaut Program
- Super Space Store
It doesn't look like there is much going on inside each of the sections yet, the only one that does anything is the Space Station: Freezer. If you press the function switch you'll see the flavors, but that's all I can get to work. I've attached screenshots after the jump of what they all currently show. So did you guys find anything else that I may have missed? Let us know in the comments.
