The guys over at Cinematical seem to think so. They received a casting notice from Paramount yesterday that did not have a title attached to it, and while that in itself isn't terribly interesting, the fact that they had also just sent a casting notice for 'Footloose' with a title attached to it, made them a little suspicious. After looking through the roster of upcoming movies from Paramount that could possibly use 13-14 year old kids who don't have any previous acting experince, they determined that there's a good chance this could be for Super 8 (although it's still not 100% confirmed).
You'll find the casting list below for 3 13-14 year old kids which I can only assume are the kids that are shooting a super 8 movie and while going through their footage they see a creature, possibly the scariest thing they've ever seen... That is, if the original "leaked" plot synopsis is correct. So check out the cast list below and maybe you fit the bill or know someone that does...
Seeking 13-14 year old Boys & Girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film. No previous acting experience is necessary, but must have great energy and a wonderful sense of humor and thoughtfulness.
JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.
COLLIN: Male 13-14. Slightly, or more than slightly, overweight. Collin is confident, driven, optimistic and a natural leader. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.
NATALIE: Female 13-14. A natural beauty – she is stunning, but not the "cheerleader" type. Strong and confident, but has an underlying sadness. Should have a Midwestern feel.

Update: It seems as though this isn't a casting call for "Super 8", but rather for Bad Robot's remake of the movie "Little Darlings". Sorry to disappoint, and hopefully none of you sent in audition tapes thinking it was for "Super 8"

ROFL people are saying its captain america. they are certain of it too. But if it was captain america or a human. he trailer would have said “HE ARRIVES” instead of “IT ARRIVES” IT meaning a creature or animal. IT is an alien, also in the movie trailer, the way the door was smashed. aliens have always had an image of skinny little men with big round head. well this alien seems like its REALLY STRONG!! it could be a tall alien who is stronger than it looks. scariest thing i ever saw meaning it will be really freaky looking???
Has anyone actually read the scenes? I just read Josh’s, it really seems like it has NOTHING to do with what we know about Super 8. It seems more like a teenage coming of age story. Unless all of these scenes take place in the beginning like Rob’s party in Cloverfield (which judging by the notes in the scenes, they seem pretty far in the movie), then I don’t think this is Super 8.
@Andrew I mentioned this in the forum, but I don’t think the scenes have anything to do with the movie. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not a casting call for Super 8 though, it’s probably just generic scenes the studio uses to get actors to portray emotion. Do you really think that a secretive movie like this would put out actual scenes from the movie at this point? If you look at the girl’s scene it’s exactly the same as one of the guys scenes, just with different names…
In an interview after Cloverfield released, the guy who plays Rob said that when he auditioned for the movie the lines were not even in Cloverfield, and that even the plot that the casting directors had explained to them was different than Cloverfield’s. This is definitely the casting for Super 8. I mean come on there is no title, and Cloverfield was the only movie I had ever heard having a code name like “Cheese” while casting a filming. J.J. Abrams is a genius, but you guys are doing a heck of a job at figuring out things ahead of time. Props.
You know, the “Scariest Thing I Ever Saw” name could refer to the train wreck in itself.

Read the scenes and they are generic. One Josh delt with divorce and Collin delt with school crap and if a kid from the early sixties and supppose to be 13-14 what are they doing talking about stealing the parents car and setting up for concert in a garage?

When I reaserched it I saw a university, but some people saw weird symbols on the road like faces and weird writing, but I don’t know. I should know because I go here often since it started.

i think the casting could still be for super 8, it mentions in some of the characters that they want a “mid-western feel”. Ohio is considered the mid-west. I think it is a casting for super 8 made to look like it isnt.

Super 8 has not started casting. I auditioned for the role of Natalie and I have not got a call back yet whether I got the part or not. They should call back within the next 4 weeks. Tell me if that helps!

I think its somthing to do with E.T. beacause in the trailer for a split second (if even that) you see ellioit from E.T. I think that when the ship flys off military shoots at it and pisses it off and they the roll of the kids capture all the meyhem with there Super 8 camera (hence the name super 8)
I think it is the casting for it. One of the characters is Josh. Casting for a young Josh Minker that witnesses the creature? The cloverfield monster is from the ocean, right? Josh Minker has a fish website now….idk maybe yall knew this. Im lost.
