S8editingroom.com Updates

As many of you have noticed the s8editingroom.com site has been updated with a new clip, "77",  that is about 1-2 seconds long. It shows a familiar face saying "the subject's most likely natural". I can't see anything of interest in the background or anything else within the short clip, but if you find something let us know.

I'm going to continue to update this post whenever there are updates to the s8editingroom.com website. It'll keep everything in one place and cut down on random posts on the site.

Update 3/30/11: Clip #19 has appeared on the site and like the other clips, doesn't offer much in the way of new information. Lt. Col. Martin L. Abraham is talking and he gets cut off as he's saying "the assault on tech..."

Update 4/14/11: Clip #23 has been unlocked today. It features Lt. Col. Martin L. Abraham again finishing up his press conference.

New Chat Log and New Map – March 25th

Just as expected there is a new chat log today. Check out the screenshot below. So despite what some people were thinking before, Sarah and this mysterious man(?) are not the same person. We've also been given another picture (which is in the Photos folder on the desktop of the STIES site, password toadfish112), which is a map of Nevada with what appears to be a drawing of the front of a building and some numbers (75.125 04.2). Take a look and let us know what you find!

The guys over at unfiction seem to think that the drawing of the building resembles that of The Little Ale'Inn (picture below). They went so far as to call the place and nobody there had any idea what they were talking about in regards to the movie, but I must say that the building does look very much like the drawing.

22 Minutes of Super 8 Has Been Seen!

Don't worry there aren't any spoilers regarding the 22 minutes of the movie that were screened last night, but it does sound like we will not get a glimpse of whatever is terrorizing the town before the movie opens. Abrams made it a point to say that he doesn't want to show anything before the movie opens so despite what anyone has thought they've seen in the current trailers... it's not our creature.

Other than that, the guys over at Cinematical that caught the footage say that it looks great and if the rest of the movie plays like the short bits they saw, then we're in for a treat. You can head on over to Cinematical and read the rest of the post regarding the footage and like I said, there's no spoilers so no harm in checking it out.

Which brings me to another point, just like I did with Cloverfieldnews.com, there will be no spoiler talk in the comments. If I believe an item to be a spoiler for anyone that hasn't seen the movie I will remove the comment. Even after the movie releases in the US there will be no spoilers posted since there will still be places that the movie hasn't been released yet. So just keep that in mind. As the release date gets closer I'll setup a section in the forum dedicated to spoiler talk so that the people who have seen the movie can discuss what they thought without having to worry about ruining it for anyone.

Now if you want a slightly-spoiler filled review of the clip head on over to Shock Till You Drop and check it out. It still doesn't reveal a whole lot regarding the alien or plot points that we don't know about yet, but it goes into a bit of detail surrounding the train crash. Honestly though, after reading it I didn't feel that I ruined any bit of the movie for myself, although it does answer one question a few people had regarding the pickup truck that crashes into the train and who was driving...

Could be real, could be part of the viral, I'm not really sure, but Josh Minker's Blog, Hook, Line and Minker, has a new post indicating that the site was hacked. A lot of people are paying attention to the Super 8 viral these days so it's hard to tell if it was actually hacked or if this is part of the game. I'm going to say that unless we hear otherwise, I would assume this is part of the game. So with that being said, what could "BXTSLWK729" be? I already tried plugging it in as the Device on the STIES site with no luck...

Sorry to hack this but you weren’t paying attention. Check email for credentials. BXTSLWK729. I know you just found where to use this (/explanation).

Update: Turns out it was all part of the game. Thanks Sinamatik (and 'Rocket Mountaineer' at unfiction). It looks as though the person behind http://revalistic.com (Sarah) is behind the hacking of Josh's site. The "BXTSLWK729" password works on http://revalistic.com/explanation . Good find, I didn't even think that the "(/explaination)" was the end of a URL, let alone the revalistic site. So you can head on over to the site above and put in the password for yourself to read the explaination, or you can just click through the jump where I've copied and pasted it.

If you've been following the Rocket Poppeteers portion of the viral marketing you would know that we've seen a survey come through our email boxes in the past, but it looks like a new one is starting to show up for some of you. Thanks to @tjcreative on Twitter for the screenshot.
