super 8 alien creature resistance 3 creature grim

Another image has been making its way around movie sites on the web claiming to be part of the viral marketing for Super 8, but like the last one, I'm going to call it as totally unrelated to this movie. io9 and Movie Web are reporting that this image and a related video of a little girl talking about her experience on a movie set, are related to Super 8. The image first appeared on a hunting facebook page and has since blown up. The image shows a strange creature down on all fours running through the woods towards a camera. It was first posted as being completely real in that supposedly a hunter caught the creature on camera as it was racing towards him... Then it was picked up as a part of the Super 8 viral because a "source close to the production" confirmed it... and finally it's now being passed off as part of the viral marketing for Resistance 3, a new Playstation 3 game coming out. Personally I don't really know what to believe, but I'm pretty confident in saying that this is not part of the Super 8 viral campaign, but like anything, I guess you never know. You can find the image above and all the sources below, and you can form your own conclusions.

super 8 creature monster alien concept

I noticed in the comments, and on other movie sites, that there is an image floating around that claims to be concept art from a Bad Robot/Paramount film and I feel like we're reliving the Cloverfield days all over again. I can say with confidence that I believe this picture is not related to Super 8 or even Bad Robot/Paramount at all. When Cloverfield started it's viral campaign there were lots of "concept" drawings that started to leak yet none of them were real and all done by fans of the project, which is exactly what I think this is. Actually this image may just be a concept drawn by someone for a completely different purpose, but someone found it and slapped the Paramount Logo on it. Also, Neville Page is the one doing the creature design for Super 8 (also the same person that did the Cloverfield creature among others) and he has a pretty distinct signature which, if this were legit concept art by Mr. Page, I think we'd be able to see even if we couldn't read it clearly.

So while this is a cool image I wouldn't get your hopes up for this being the creature. There is so much secrecy around this movie that I don't think anyone is going to get a glimpse of the creature until the movie comes out, just like Cloverfield.

Update (thanks to Jane): As I figured, it has nothing to do with Super 8. The artist is Patrick Reilly (http://preilly.deviantart.com/gallery/) and he's also responsible for some of the Cloverfield fan art that was floating around when people were talking about what that creature could possibly be.  Some of the guys on unfiction emailed Patrick asking if the art was his and they got the following responses:

Yes, except for all the writing.
Where did you find that?

Thanks for the heads up.

As for the Cloverfield art, that was just fan art based on the descriptions that some people had given.
A few days after I created it, I noticed several websites claiming it was official concept art.

Anyways, Ill look into those websites claiming it's Super 8 concept art.

So I'm still glad I posted this as it would have floated around for a while with people thinking it was real, so now we can move on.

More Super 8 Casting News

super 8 casting news

Looks like the veil of secrecy is starting to lift surrounding Super 8 and the first things to be revealed are the cast. Yesterday I posted an article about Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler joining the cast of Super 8 and now it looks like we have a few more cast members.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills have all joined the cast of Super 8.

And on a side note, take this as you will, I have had multiple people email me from Weirton saying that Brad Pitt has been spotted in town. I'm a little skeptical about this, but you never know, stranger things have happened. Thanks to all those that sent in this tip and keep the pictures coming!

super 8 casting kyle chandler elle fanning

It appears that we have our first two official cast members, if these other sites are to be believed. Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler have supposedly been cast in Super 8, but there isn't really anything 100% official yet. Vulture reported this the other day and I wanted to wait a few days to see if something more official was released regarding this, but since nothing has come out either way I figured it was worthy of a post.

Elle Fanning is, of course, Dakota Fanning's sister and has been in such movies as Deja Vu with Denzel Washington and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. If she's as talented as her sister, I think this is a pretty good casting choice and I think she'll work well.

Kyle Chandler is probably best known for his role on the TV show Friday Night Lights, but he's also been in movies like King Kong, The Kingdom and The Day the Earth Stood Still. I actually don't recall him from the movies and I don't watch Friday Night Lights, but from what you guys have said in the comments and from what I've read elsewhere, this is also another good casting choice.

So there you have it, the first casting rumors surrounding Super 8, and they appear to be pretty solid. Hopefully this is legit and official, but who knows. I would still take it all with a grain of salt until there has been an official announcement, but from my experience, Vulture is pretty good with their sources.

UPDATE: Word on the street (thanks to Singularity7) is that Kyle Chandler was seen shadowing the chief of police in Weirton this week learning the ins and outs of a day in the life of a small town cop. So if the rumors are true chances are pretty good that he's going to be playing a police officer/chief in Super 8.

Are We Seeing Things Now?

I know, I know, there's probably nothing there and it's our eyes playing tricks on us, but like I've said before this is all part of the fun. With that being said, take a look at the image above (you can click on it to make it larger) and tell me what you see, then read on... (I don't want my observations making you see something you wouldn't have otherwise).
