Alien Sighting in the Trailer?

At the 22 second mark in the trailer this screenshot was pulled showing what could possibly be an alien figure off to the left side of the screen. It appears to be the face/head of what most people would describe as an alien being. It is gray and has a large skull and larger oval shaped eyes. Now, I'm not sure what we're seeing here, it could just be smoke playing tricks on our eyes, but it does sort of resemble an alien. However, that being said, I don't think this is the creature that is trying to break out of the box car on the train. The creature contained within that car seems to be a lot more powerful and probably a lot bigger than just an alien being. I think we're going to be looking at an actual creature and not just an alien "humanoid" when all is said and done.

So again, this could just be our eyes playing tricks on us and our brains making us see what we want to see, but it's the start of the campaign so I figured that everything is fair game for right now until we can prove otherwise (possible with an official version of the trailer).  So what do you guys think?

Thanks Brett for commenting on this and user wildoofsmeg at unfiction for the screenshot.

Update: commenter Kidanny has posted up another screenshot which some are saying looks more like an alien than the above, but honestly the more I look at both of them it just looks like smoke or the middle of a transition in the frame, but you be the judge. I've posted Kidanny's screenshot after the jump.

This is just me thinking aloud here so please correct me if you find something else.

On the scariestthingieversaw.com website, the green screen makes mention of a name, D. Morris, so I decided to do some digging into any D. Morris that might have any relation to UFO's or Area 51 and I came up with Dan Morris and the following information about him.

Dan Morris is a retired Air Force career Master Sergeant who was involved in the extraterrestrial projects for many years. After leaving the Air Force, he was recruited into the super-secret National Reconnaissance Organization, or NRO, during which time he worked specifically on extraterrestrial-connected operations. He had a cosmic top-secret clearance (38 levels above top secret) which, he states, no U.S. president, to his knowledge, has ever held. In his testimony, he talks of assassinations committed by the NSA; he tells how our military deliberately caused the 1947 ET craft crashes near Roswell, and captured one of the ETs, which they kept at Los Alamos for 3 years, until he died. He talks about the intelligence teams that were charged with intimidating, discrediting, and even eliminating witnesses to ET/UFO events. He talks about Germany’s re-engineering of UFOs, even prior to WWII. He talks about our current energy crisis — and the fact that we haven’t needed fossil fuels since the 1940s, when free energy technologies were developed — but have been kept from humanity. This is the real reason for the secrecy of the ET/UFO subject. "What the people in power right now don’t want us to know is that this free energy is available to everybody." In conclusion, he warns against the weaponization of space and the shooting down of ET craft — this could force them to retaliate, and that would be our destruction.

It sounds like this could be the name mentioned in the computer on that site as he seems to have a lot of possible knowledge of UFO cover-ups and other information. So that's what I've dug up so far on the name "D. Morris" that appears on the viral site for the movie, nothing directly related to the campaign, but it could be something to work off of.There's a lot of information out there about him and things he's said, just google dan morris ufo.

Scariest Thing I Ever Saw

Those guys over at the unfiction forums are all over this just like they were with Cloverfield (and thanks to Yiddleja again for the tip). It looks like there were some letters that flashed during the trailer that have possibly been decoded to say "Scariest Thing I Ever Saw". And of course the first thing we're gonna do is punch that into a web browser and get www.scariestthingieversaw.com which seems to have been registered a little over a week after the super8-movie.com website was, and by the same registration company.

Here's the letters from the trailer thanks to unfiction user blaqueice:

The website shows a virtual computer of sorts, a PDP-11 actually. There are 2 windows on the screen, the main window is the green screen command prompt interface and behind that is a window that asks if you want to print all pages to default printer. I do not have a printer that I can print to here, but those unfiction guys are way ahead, apparently if you say yes to print you get the following:

Stop posting publicly. I can answer your questions.
I have proof.

>>>>

As for the green screen, if you follow the prompts and keep pressing "Y" you will eventually end up at a screen with what appears to be a counter. CrispyG4 over at unfiction figured out how long it will take for the counter to even out:

The number ticks every 5 seconds.

134640 parts. Start at 6000 so subtract those 6000 from the total: 128640

Times that by 5, you get 643,200 seconds until the countdown ends.

Divide that by 60, 10720 minutes. Divide THAT by 60, get 179 hours. Which is just around 7 1/2 days. So, probably around Noon on the 15th?

So it looks like, if this is connected, we may get a new reveal or something new around noon on May 15th, 2010. The only other thing that I noticed while playing with the green screens is the name D. Morris 05-FEB-77, so there could be a clue there.

And that's all I have for right now on this. I think it's probably legit and connected to the project based on the domain registration as well as the ip traces back to the same place that Cloverfield's sites were hosted on as well as the official site for Super 8.  I've posted a bunch of screenshots after the jump for those that may not be able to access that page for whatever reason.

UPDATE: It seems as though there's a slight change in the last "countdown" screen that I posted early this morning compared to what it shows now. Instead of only 2 of the lines having text in them, it has now moved onto the 3rd. I've posted a new screenshot after the jump below the previous one so you can see what I'm talking about.

UPDATE 2: The countdown is now on #19 of 20 and I've redone the calculation that was mentioned above and I seem to have come up with a different ending time of 10PM CST tonight or 11PM EST. Someone double check and let me know what you come up with, I could have miscalculated.

UPDATE 3 (6/2/10): A new folder has appeared behind the windows on the site, head on over HERE to discuss.

Super 8 Trailer Review

It looks like someone over at Film Popper (as well as some other movie sites, as I've now confirmed) has seen the Super 8 trailer and has a pretty nice rundown of it... and honestly, it sounds pretty freakin cool.

The trailer starts with a black screen, that says Steven Spielberg is the producer. Then a small written narrative begins that reads something like this. “In 1970 [editor note: actually 1979 according to other sources] Area 51 was closed down and everything was shipped to an undisclosed location in Ohio”. Then you see a train carrying lots of cargo loads. Cut to a car driving down the road that jumps up on the tracks and heads straight toward the train. Cut to black screen and then the words “From Director J.J. Abrams”. Then back to the train and car colliding into each other, the the train derails, the camera slowly zooms in on one of the tipped over cargo cars of the derailed train, then something is punching on the walls inside the train cart trying to escape. Cut to black screen and then the title ”Super 8“. [editor note: actual text reads "Next Summer. It Arrives.... Super 8"]

So it looks like this is the announced collaboration between Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams that was announced last week. It also looks like it has nothing to do with Cloverfield as first rumored, which is totally fine by me because this sounds just as cool.

Thanks again to Yiddleja for posting this in the comments and keep this page bookmarked for more news regarding this project.
